Chronology of cameras Folmer and Schwing

The Folmer & Schwing Manufacturing Company was founded in 1887 by William Fredrick Folmer and William E. Schwing.

In 1905, due to declining sales, George Eastman bought the company and transferred it to Rochester, where it was renamed Folmer & Schwing Co., Rochester.

In 1907, the Folmer & Schwing Co. was officially dissolved and became Folmer & Schwing, a division of Eastman Kodak.

The Finger Print Camera was manufactured from 1917. This camera was specially designed for police departments to photograph fingerprints. As shown in the manual, the camera is directly in contact with the subject to be photographed.

The front panel is hinged to access the lens, which is a Kodak Anastigmat f/6.3 - 72 mm fixed at a very precise point which makes high quality full-size images of the fingerprints or any other object. The actual size of the print is 2 1/8 x 3 1/8 “ (5.5 x 8 cm), being the film or plate used of 2¼ x 3¼ ” (6 x 9 cm).

A lighting system consists of four miniature light bulbs located directly inside, which are automatically lit when the lever that opens the shutter is pressed during the shooting. These bulbs can be used independently to locate the object to be photographed, by pressing a small button. The power supply for this lighting is provided by batteries built into the camera.

Its price in 1917 was $30.00 (with two batteries and 10 bulbs). As an option, a magazine for 12 plates and a film-pack adapter were offered.
